FAWOI conducted a GBV sensitization program at Gham Comprehensive High School, Ikal Oku. Leo Comfort Kumbong and Lem Theresia Iorwa, the Social Service Workers for Oku Health District in the North-West Region of Cameroon, facilitated the sensitization.
With 182 participants, including 176 students and 6 teachers, the program aimed to raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and promote gender equality.
Through lectures, group discussions, and interactive activities, attendees were educated on GBV’s types, causes, consequences, and prevention strategies.
The key recommendations from this activity were:
– Collaboration with local authorities to promote prevention and response,
– Teacher training on GBV prevention and support,
– The establishment of a GBV prevention club,
– Regular follow-up sessions.
The activity also provided a platform for participants to share their experiences and concerns related to GBV, and promoted positive attitudes and behaviours towards gender equality.
