Recognizing Resilience and Fostering Intergenerational Wellbeing and Bonds
In Cameroon, where 3.5% of our population is 60 years and above, we face significant challenges in caring for the elderly. On the International Day of the Elderly, we reflect on these challenges and reaffirm our commitment to supporting this vital segment of our community through
- Disability Awareness: With 6% of our elderly suffering from disabilities, predominantly blindness, we emphasize the need for accessible solutions and compassionate care.
- Chronic Health Management: As 5.8% battle chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes, we focus on providing consistent medical support and education.
- Poverty Alleviation and Capacity Building: Many of our elderly live in poverty, depending on family support or subsistence farming. Our goal is to ensure financial stability and security for every elder through economic empowerment and capacity building.
- Healthcare Accessibility: The lack of financial security is a barrier to healthcare and nutrition. We are dedicated to creating pathways to essential services for all through universal health coverage and referral systems.
At Family World International (FAWOI), we believe that a community without its elders loses the richness of intergenerational wisdom essential for thriving societies. Our elders are not just recipients of care; they are pillars of wisdom and experience, guiding us towards a better future.
On this day, we honour their contributions and pledge to enhance their quality of life, ensuring they can continue imparting their invaluable knowledge to future generations.
Join us in celebrating the resilience and value of our elderly community members.
